At a recent Port Moody council meeting, Mayor Mike Clay said the Evergreen Line was opening on Nov. 20.
“I had knocked on the ear, I guess, of Kevin Desmond, this is the new CEO of Translink and said ‘we don’t really know what’s going on with the stations’, so I think everybody’s heard the opening date of the Evergreen Line has been pulled forward,” said Clay in the Sept. 30 meeting. “Reporters are still here, go ahead quote me, November the 20th, gliding into Port Moody.”

But now Clay is saying that statement is not true and it was “just a joke.”
“The November 20th date was a date I pulled out of the air,” he told Global News on Wednesday. “We’re super excited with the announcement that it will be open before Christmas. We’ve been waiting a long time and we’re eager to see it open.”
Translink has not commented on when the line will officially open, but they did say it will be before Christmas.
