Open burning in Glen Canyon Park

Don’t be alarmed if you see smoke coming from the Glen Canyon area in West Kelowna.

The Regional District of Central Okanagan says a control burn is underway in the southern portion of the park.

“Open burning is allowed today for those eligible Central Okanagan property owners with permits from their local fire authority and with appropriate safety equipment and precautions, said CORD spokesman, Bruce Smith.

“Today’s burning continues the disposal of fire hazard debris piles collected in a fuel modification project taking place on just over 15-hectares between the trail entrances at Hebert and Brown Roads and Westbank Centre Park, south to the Gellatly Road parking area,” he said.

Smith said that some trails in the park may be closed because of the fire activity.
