Crews douse suspicious fire near Henderson Highway

WINNIPEG – Winnipeg firefighters battled a suspicious fire that appeared to have started in some discarded mattresses on Saturday afternoon.

Crews were called to Hespeler Ave. at around 2:30 p.m.

A wooden staircase with mattresses underneath was on fire when crews arrived.

“It’s suspicious in nature and is under investigation at this time,” said district chief Alden Darragh.

The fire was brought under control quickly.

No one was injured.
