Alberta Premier Rachel Notley pleased with B.C. LNG project approval

Alberta Premier Rachel Notley says she’s pleased that the federal government is “rolling up its sleeves” with its conditional approval of the Pacific NorthWest LNG project.

Notley says the approval helps strike the right balance between economic growth and environmental sustainability.

The $36-billion project, located high up on B.C.’s coast, would ship 19 million tonnes a year of liquefied gas to markets in Asia.

One of the conditions for approval is a maximum cap on greenhouse gas emissions.

Notley says her government also hopes the project will open opportunities for construction workers in Alberta.

She says regardless of the project, the province remains focused on getting a pipeline to the coasts in order to get a better price for its oil on world markets.
