CALGARY- Some federal Conservatives are getting all fired up for a fundraiser.

The Friday night brought together controversial MP Rob Anders, and MP Garry Breitkreuz, a staunch opponent of the gun registry.

They’re trying to promote the safe use of firearms by hosting the Oktoberfest Gun Rally.

A handful of supporters paid $150 each for the event at The Shooting Edge, a local gun range.

Breitkreuz was a driving force behind the effort to dismantle the federal gun registry, and said he will continue to ensure it never returns as legislation.

“The leader of the NDP said he’s going to bring back the long-gun registry,” he said. “I don’t think that’s going to happen, because the costs of doing this and making it so that every gun in the country is registered would be another $2 billion dollars.”

Both he and Anders fired off of couple of rounds during the event. Anders said he is comfortable with weapons and was trained to shoot.

“I used to shoot with the junior Forest Wardens of Alberta… I actually invited out some of my friends who I’ve been shooting with since my junior high school days,” Anders said.

The MPs said they did not organize the event as a publicity stunt.
