Winnipeg Jets to sit Patrik Laine, Logan Stanley in first pre-season game

WINNIPEG – The Winnipeg Jets will show off their free agent acquisitions during Tuesday’s exhibition game against the Calgary Flames at the MTS Centre.

Forwards Shawn Matthias and Quinton Howden along with defenceman Brian Strait will all suit up for the Jets. The three players were signed by Winnipeg this summer. Combined, they have more than 750 games of NHL experience.

The Jets’ two first round draft picks in this year’s draft, Patrik Laine and Logan Stanley, will not play in the game. The rest of Winnipeg’s roster will be filled with prospects.

Forwards: Andrew Copp, Brandon Tanev, Anthony Peluso, Shawn Matthias, Adam Lowry, Nic Petan, Quinton Howden, Joel Armia, JC Lipon, Jack Roslovic, Jansen Harkins and Michael Spacek

Defencemen: Paul Postma, Josh Morrissey, Brian Strait, Brenden Kichton, Nelson Nogier and Julian Melchiori

Goalies: Eric Comrie and Michael Hutchinson

NHL teams must dress a minimum of eight veterans in each pre-season game. The Jets just surpass the requirement with nine playing against Calgary. Matthias, Howden, Strait, Copp, Peluso, Lowry, Armia, Postma and Hutchinson are all considered veterans.

The Flames arrive in Winnipeg without a win, following a pair of losses to the Edmonton Oilers Monday.

Tonight’s tilt is the Jets’ first of their seven-game pre-season schedule.
