Calgary police believe a deadly assault in the downtown core earlier this year was a targeted attack.
Officers were called to the 200 block of 15 Avenue S.W. at around 1 a.m. on Monday, April 18 by witnesses who noticed an altercation involving several people.
When they arrived, police found the people at the scene “uncooperative” and said they refused to provide statements.

About an hour later, officers were called to the Sheldon M. Chumir Centre after a stabbing victim arrived at the hospital to seek medical treatment. Investigators determined the victim had been involved in the previous incident on 15 Avenue and had walked from there to the hospital.
The victim, Hebern Donald Marsden, 49, remained in hospital in critical condition until succumbing to his injuries on Friday, July 1.
“The Homicide Unit has been actively pursuing this occurrence using several investigative strategies,” police said in a Monday news release.
Anyone with information is asked to call Calgary police at 403-266-1234 or the Homicide Unit Tip Line at 403-428-8877, or contact Crime Stoppers.
