Edmonton Oilers sign defenceman Eric Gryba to professional tryout contract

The Edmonton Oilers have signed defenceman Eric Gryba to a professional tryout contract.

The 28-year-old played with the Oilers in 2015-16, registering six points (one goal, five assists) in 53 games. Prior to joining the Oilers as a free agent, the right-handed blueliner spent three seasons the Ottawa Senators.

A six-foot-four, 227-pound, native of Saskatoon, Gryba has appeared in 218 NHL games over his five-year NHL career, registering 35 points (five goals, 30 assists). In 2011, Gryba helped the AHL’s Binghamton Senators win the Calder Cup.

Gryba was originally drafted by Ottawa in the third round (68th overall) of the 2006 NHL draft.

He helped the Boston University Terriers capture an NCAA championship in 2009.
