Police say excessive speed and alcohol are being investigated as possible factors in a deadly motorcycle crash on Memorial Drive.
It happened in the 1200 block of Memorial Drive N.W. at around 1:30 a.m. on Friday.
Investigators believe the Honda motorcycle was travelling eastbound when the driver lost control as he entered a bend in the road.
“The motorcycle struck the raised stone median on the road that separates the eastbound and westbound lanes,” police explained in a Friday news release. ” The rider was thrown from the motorcycle, and then struck a tree in the median.”
“The motorcycle continued along Memorial Drive and eventually slid into a nearby roadway.”
The motorcyclist, a 23-year-old man, died at the scene.
The collision caused the temporary closure of Memorial Drive N.W. between 10 Street N.W. and 14 Street N.W. It was re-opened shortly before 6 a.m.
