SkyTrain commuters were faced with long waits to get to their destinations Tuesday morning due to a track issue on the Expo Line. TransLink says a rail grinder derailed, damaging the switch mechanism.

Service was suspended between Metrotown and Commercial-Broadway stations for at least two hours. While TransLink says the issue has now been fixed, delays are expected to last for a while longer as the situation gets back to normal.

Passengers headed downtown from Surrey had to switch at Columbia Station to the Millennium Line bound for VCC-Clark, where they could then transfer to trains bound for Waterfront. Millennium Line trains were running between VCC-Clark and Columbia Stations only.

At some stations, passengers had to wait at least three trains to go by before they could make their way onto a train.
