Following DiCaprio’s documentary was American Pastoral, which brought out stars Ewan McGregor, Jennifer Connelly, Dakota Fanning, Uzo Abuda and David Strathairn. When speaking about his directorial debut at a press conference McGregor said, “You can’t plan a movie and execute it how you’d build a house. It doesn’t work like that. It’s a sort of magical happening, the creation of a scene.”
Nate Parker’s introduction of The Birth of a Nation on Friday night was well-received; the writer/director/star earned a round of applause from the full house when he was brought on stage to introduce and speak about the film.
Anne Hathaway and Jason Sudeikis hit the red carpet for the premiere of their sci-fi film Colossal, where they play a pair who rekindle an old friendship while giant monsters terrorize Seoul.

The star-studded cast of the docudrama thriller Snowden also made an appearance at TIFF (including Joesph Gordon-Levitt, Zachary Quinto and Shailene Woodley). According to director Oliver Stone, the National Security Agency’s surveillance operations were “really a secret underworld” that the public could only guess at until Edward Snowden exposed them.

Day 3 also included the premiere of Queen of Katwe with Lupita Nyong’o and David Oyelowo and The Bleeder with Naomi Watts and Liev Schreiber.
Day 4 of TIFF included the premiere of Tom Ford’s second feature, the thriller Nocturnal Animals, starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Amy Adams and Michael Shannon. Jackie, which also premiered Sunday, is Chilean director Pablo Larrain’s English-language debut and stars Natalie Portman as Jacqueline Kennedy in the days leading up to and following the assassination of former U.S. President John F. Kennedy.
