Canada’s youngest multiple-killer received glowing reviews at her sentence review on Monday.
The girl was 12-years-old when she and her former boyfriend stabbed her parents and young brother to death in their Medicine Hat home, in 2006.
The girl, who cannot be identified because her name is protected under the Young Offenders Act, is referred to only as ‘JR.’
Her boyfriend Jeremy Allan Steinke, who was 23 at the time, was found guilty of three counts of first-degree murder.
‘JR’ was sentenced to ten years for the crime, the maximum for a young offender.
The young woman is now 18-years-old, and appeared in a Medicine Hat courtroom on Monday via CCTV for a sentence review.
The justice seemed pleased with a report summarizing the last six months of progress since her last review.
‘JR’ is living alone, working a full-time job and taking post-secondary courses.
However, ‘JR’ is still receiving psychiatric counseling.
“You’re doing well, and all I can say is keep up the good work” said Justice Scott Brooker while addressing the young woman.
Part of her unique sentence includes her gradual reintegration back into society.
She turns 19 later this month, and will be free when she is 22-years-old.
