‘We didn’t mean to make it West Kelowna’s problem, but we did’: Peachland Fire Rescue

“We didn’t mean to make it West Kelowna’s problem – but we did.”  That’s what Peachland Fire Rescue is saying about a big piece of debris moored in Gellatly Bay.

Last week, Peachland marine rescue was called out after two sailboats nearly hit something floating in the water.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

The Fire Chief says it It was the bottom pontoons of an abandoned houseboat, destroyed in the recent windstorm.

The firefighters decided it was a navigational hazzard, and moved it out of the way.

Now it’s tied to a buoy in Gellatly Bay and the city of West Kelowna wants to get rid of it.

Anyone with information about who might own the rubble is asked to call West Kelowna Bylaw Enforcement at 778-897-8810.
