Video: Sheriff releases video of where Chretien was found

The remains of missing Canadian Albert Chretien have been found in a heavily wooded area of Merritt Mountain in Northern Elko County, Nevada.

The Elko County Sheriff’s Office said in a release that late in the afternoon on September 29, two local hunters contacted them saying they had found human remains.

Early the next day, searchers from the Sheriff’s Office met with the two men and continued to search the area for all possible evidence before collecting and transporting the remains to Burns Funeral Home.

The Sheriff’s Office said items found in the pocket of the deceased clothing led them to the positive identification of Albert Chretien.

He and his wife, Rita, made headlines around the world when they became stranded in Northern Elko County in March, 2011.

Rita spent 48 days in their vehicle before being rescued.

Albert had left the vehicle to walk back to State Route 225 in search of help, but it was unknown what happened to him.

The couple were travelling from their home in B.C. to a trade show in Las Vegas.

Late in the afternoon on September 29, 2012 local hunters Rodney Thompson and Jay Doke contacted the Elko County Sheriff’s Office, regarding the location of human remains in a heavily wooded area of Merritt Mountain in Northern Elko County.

In the early morning hours of September 30, 2012, Searchers from the Elko County Sheriff’s Office met with Rodney Thompson and Jay Doke in Northern Elko County. Searchers were led to the area of the human remains.

Elko County Sheriff’s Office Searchers continued to search the area for all possible evidence or property. After completing the search and processing the scene the remains were collected and transported to Burns Funeral Home.

Searchers located items in the pocket of the deceased clothing; this led to the positive identification of Albert Chretien.

Albert Chretien and his wife Rita became stranded in Northern Elko County in March of 2011. Rita Chretien spent 48 days in their vehicle before being rescued. Albert Chretien left their vehicle to walk back to State Route 225 in search of help getting their vehicle unstuck.
