Two Saskatchewan companies have been fined for workplace safety violations in separate cases, one that resulted in the death of a worker.
On Sept. 15, 2014, a tractor with a crane came into contact with a high-voltage electrical line near Coleville, Sask., killing a worker walking beside the tractor.

Darcy Rask Construction Inc. pleaded guilty on Aug. 30 for failing to ensure no workers work, and no equipment of powered mobile equipment, is used or operated within a minimum distance from exposed energized electrical conductors.
The Birch Hills, Sask., company was fined $23,800.
In the separate case, a worker became trapped under a trencher on July 15, 2015 while installing irrigation pipes near Swift Current, Sask.

C. & F. Installations Company pleaded guilty on Aug. 29 for failing to ensure that powered mobile equipment is not moved or caused to be moved when a worker may be endangered by the movement.
The Saskatoon-based company was fined $32,200.
An additional charge against the company was stayed.
