An incident at Agrium’s Vanscoy potash mine resulted in a worker being sent to hospital with serious injuries this past weekend.
The man was working underground when something went wrong just before 11 a.m. CT on Aug. 21, according to the mine’s general manager Todd Steen.
“He was transported immediately to hospital for treatment,” Steen said.

The employee was airlifted by STARS to Saskatoon and underwent surgery on Sunday. He is not being identified out of respect for the family, Steen added.
The worker is expected to make a recovery, said Darrin Kruger, president of United Steelworkers Local 7552.
“Right now we’re just concentrating on supporting the family and the coworkers with our wishes of well-being and support,” Kruger said.
In a separate incident at the mine on Aug. 8, Chad Wiklun was caught between two pieces of equipment while underground.
Wiklun, 29, died of his injuries.

Investigations into both incidents are underway with officials from the mine, union and Saskatchewan Occupation Health and Safety (OHS).
Agrium’s Vanscoy potash operation is situated about 30 kilometres southwest of Saskatoon.
