He says a few bad apples are giving gun owners a bad name by creating a mess in the Ellison area near Kelowna.

They call it Little Iraq because the place, located on Postill Lake Road in Ellison, looks like a war zone.

It’s covered with empty shell casings, trash and household items used for target practice.

Kelowna resident Jesse Fleming, a gun enthusiast himself, is calling out those who are hauling junk into the back country and using it for target practice.

And that’s not all they’re bringing: propane tanks are a popular choice, along with oil filters, chairs, toys, milk jugs, electronics, car parts, patio furniture, broken bottles, and kitchen appliances.

“Something to shoot at and too lazy and stupid to make a target that they can take home with them. Instead they bring their garbage up here,” said Fleming.

Fleming says he’s going to try to clean up some of the mess himself with the help of some friends and admits it’s not a proud day for gun owners.

“This is pretty embarrassing being someone who likes to go out and shoot in the bush. It’s pretty hard to live with,” said Fleming.
