Saskatchewan’s population growing at fastest rate in almost a century

Saskatchewan’s population is growing at its fastest pace in almost a century. 

According to new figures released by Statistics Canada, the province grew by 22,154 people between July 1, 2011 and July 1, 2012, the largest one-year growth since 1921. 

In total, 1,079,958 people called the Land of Living Skies home as of July 1st.

The population grew by 6,851 in the last quarter, the largest single quarter increase since StatsCan started keeping quarterly records in 1971. 

That growth was spurred by net interprovincial in-migration of 1,373 and net international migration of 4,035. 

“Gone are the days when more people were moving out of Saskatchewan than moving in,” said Premier Brad Wall. 

“With our strong economy, plenty of career opportunities and great quality of life, Saskatchewan is the place to be.”
