An investigation is underway after a female inmate died while in custody at the Calgary Remand Centre, Global News learned Tuesday.
Alberta Justice spokesperson Michelle Davio said paramedics and Calgary police were called in to respond. She said as per standard practice, Alberta Justice will conduct an internal investigation and a fatality inquiry.

EMS said crews responded to a 911 call at the provincial facility shortly after 7 a.m. Tuesday.
Paramedics found the woman deceased. Officials said no resuscitation was attempted and the case was turned over to police and the medical examiner.
The centre houses male and female inmates who are awaiting trial or waiting for transfers to other facilities, parolees whose parole has been suspended or revoked and detainees under the federal Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.
