Two people were killed in a three-vehicle crash northeast of Calgary on Tuesday.

Emergency crews were called to Highway 9 and Township Road 270, south of Irricana, Alta., at around 9:30 a.m. Irricana is located about 50 kilometres northeast of Calgary.

When they arrived, crews discovered a collision between a sedan, cube van and semi-truck.

EMS said two men, believed to be in their 30s, were pronounced dead at the scene. Both were occupants of the sedan.

Two men who had been travelling in the cube van were assessed at the scene. One man, believed to be in his 20s, was taken to hospital in stable condition with minor injuries; the other man was uninjured.

The driver of the semi-truck was uninjured.

The cause of the crash, which caused the temporary closure of Highway 9, remains under investigation.
