The top times in both the men’s and women’s long course national championship races at Challenge Penticton were from local athletes.

Jeff Symonds recorded a time of 5:32:39 and Jen Annett came in at 6:13:39.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

“It’s amazing in itself, but to do it in your hometown is just incredible,” Symonds said.

Annett pulled away in the closing stages of the race to finish a full 32 seconds ahead of her closest competitor.

“This feels absolutely amazing!  I had no idea I had that in me,” Annett said.

Both athletes can look forward to the ITU Multisport World Championships next August, which will also be held in Penticton.
