Work to begin on twelve Alberta schools

Construction will soon begin on 12 new schools in several Alberta communities.

A dozen schools will be built in eight Alberta communities, creating up to 7,700 new spaces for Alberta students.

The schools are being built as part of a public-private partnership (P3), with ABC Schools Partnership identified as the successful P3 partner.

This means ABC Schools Partnership will be responsible for the design, build, finance and maintenance of the new schools.

Infrastructure Minister Wayne Drysdale says by using the P3 process, these schools can be completed two years earlier than through the traditional methods, saving millions of dollars.

There is a 30-year warranty on the work … Compared to a one to two year warranty under traditional school delivery methods.

The bundle of 12 P3 schools is part of a $550-million investment from the province.

Communities receiving the new schools include Airdrie, Chestermere, and Cochrane.
