Saint John police have a 30-year-old man in custody in connection with what they say appear to be a pair of random stabbings Wednesday morning.
Police say they were first called to a group home residence on Dufferin Row around 6:20 a.m.
They say a man entered the residence, threatened and then stabbed a 62-year-old staff member. She suffered minor injuries.
Less than five minutes later, police responded to a residence a short distance away on Chapel Street.
A 59-year-old resident answered the door and was attacked, and the suspect fled the scene. The man did not need medical treatment.
A suspect was arrested a short time later, and a pair of pliers was seized.
A court appearance is pending and police say it appears the suspect and victims did not know each other.
