Police said a person has died after a fire broke out in the community of Capilano Tuesday morning.

They said the blaze started at a home on 109B Avenue N.W. by 64 Street N.W.

According to Edmonton Fire Rescue Services, crews were called to respond to reports of smoke coming from the home just after 10:30 a.m.

They said firefighters arrived to a fully-involved fire and that 24 firefighters had to work “within difficult circumstances to get access inside the home because of blocked pathways.”

Fire officials said the blaze was under control by 11:24 a.m. and put out by 12:57 p.m. They said damage to the home is estimated to be $60,000.

Edmonton Fire Rescue said two people lived in the home but that the victim was home alone at the time.
