“It’s a good partnership between professors and students and communities, where they can do some research, where we can get to a point where we have enhanced data and we have better knowledge of how we can improve the environment of our province and how we can sustain the environment of our province,” said Treasury Board Minister Roland Melanson.

Ten other organisations are getting funding for these projects, including the Fundy Biosphere Reserve, the Bikery co-operative and the Petitcodiac Watershed Alliance.

“We’ve talked to other watershed groups and they are very jealous that we have an environment trust fund and they don’t,” said Watershed Alliance executive director Christine McLauchlan.

“This year the trust fund is helping us with a water monitoring program and helping us build capacity with that.”

A total of 207 projects valued at $6.5 million have been approved under the fund to date.

In addition, $1.4 million was invested from the fund in LiDAR technology, an innovative mapping technology, to help manage the environment and resources.
