Lineups form overnight for iPhone 5 in Vancouver

Scores of people camped out overnight Friday outside Pacific Centre in downtown Vancouver for a chance to nab the iPhone 5.

People began lining up early Thursday afternoon for the new smartphone, which had more than two million pre-orders in its first 24 hours. The new phones are faster, thinner and slightly larger but offer few drastic changes from the iPhone 4.

If you didn’t line up overnight or pre-order weeks ago, chance are you’ll have to wait a while to grab one. Online orders are estimated to take three to four weeks to arrive in Vancouver.

The new phones cost $699 to $899. Unlike previous incarnations, they must be purchased as part of a new or pre-existing phone contract – not that fans seem to mind.
