The Assiniboine Park Zoo has determined what killed its Amur Tiger, Reka in August.
Tuesday, Dr. Chris Enright, the Head of Veterinary Services at the zoo said the tiger died from, “severe, sudden onset, bacterial pneumonia caused by a form of bacteria commonly found in the mouths of members of the cat family.”

Zoo staff said they first started noticing a change in Reka on August 26 when he appeared lethargic, had a reduced appetite and showed a discharge from the eyes.
The tiger was going to receive a full exam, but he stopped breathing after being tranquilized for the testing and went into cardiac arrest, said officials. He died on August 27.
