WINNIPEG — A low pressure system that’s sitting over southeast Saskatchewan and the southwestern part of Manitoba could bring severe storms to part of our province.
Environment Canada issued a weather advisory just before 1:30 p.m. Thursday for parts of the Interlake region.
Due to that system, thunderstorms could develop throughout the afternoon with conditions favourable for the development of funnel clouds.
Just before 12:30 p.m. a funnel cloud was reported just south of Regina, Sask.
These clouds are usually not a danger to the ground, but weak landspout tornadoes could form.
Landspout tornadoes don’t usually cause significant damage but can still be dangerous.
Those in the area under the advisory should be on the look-out for severe weather.
The following areas are under the Weather Advisory:
- Dauphin – Russell – Roblin – Winnipegosis
- Minnedosa – Riding Mountain National Park
- Swan River – Duck Mountain – Porcupine Provincial Forest
Other areas in southern Manitoba have already seen severe thunderstorm warnings issued.
At 1:43 p.m. Thursday Environment Canada was tracking a storm located near Eddystone and Ebb and Flow First Nation.
That storm is tracking northeast moving approximately 40 kilometres per hour.
Residents should watch for heavy downpours, large hail and high winds with these severe thunderstorms.
