Star Wars’ Princess Leia’s trip to Edmonton delights sci-fi fans

The actor who will forever be remembered as Princess Leia is coming to Edmonton.

Carrie Fisher will be at the 5th annual Edmonton Comic & Entertainment Expo on Sept. 24 and 25.

Besides photo ops and autograph sessions, Fisher will speak at a spotlight panel.

She began her role in the franchise in 1977 in the first Star Wars movie. She returned for The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.

More than 30 years later, Fisher appeared once again as General Leia in the most recent Star Wars movie, Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

She’s expected to continue her role in the franchise when the eighth episode is released December 2017.

Fisher has appeared in other films like When Harry Met Sally, Shampoo, and The Blues Brothers, as well as being an acclaimed playwright, novelist and screenwriter.

The Edmonton Comic & Entertainment festival runs Sept. 23 to 25 at the Expo Centre.

Organizers also announced others who will appear at the festival: Brian Herring, who is the puppeteer behind BB-8 from Star Wars: The Force Awakens, along with Todd Haberkorn and Vic Mignoga, who starred as Spock and Capt. James T Kirk respectively in Star Trek: Continues.
