Christie Brinkley, 62, and John Mellencamp, 64, have ended their relationship after one year of dating.
“Both the mileage between their homes and their heavy career demands interfered with their ability to maintain the relationship. They vowed to remain the best of friends,” a representative for the pair told PEOPLE.
Mellencamp and Brinkley first debuted as a couple in September 2015 when they went on a dinner date in New York City.

Two months later, the supermodel opened up about her new relationship during an interview with Howard Stern on SiriusXM.
“I’m leery of discussing my relationship because I don’t want to jinx it,” Brinkley told Stern when asked if she’d marry Mellencamp. “I feel like I was so dragged through the press. I don’t want that again.”
In an interview with PEOPLE in June, Brinkley revealed that it was not love at first sight with Mellencamp. “I thought, ‘Oh my gosh, we’re really opposites. He’s kind of a throwback from another time, like a silent cowboy,'” she said. “But then we talked and realized that we do have a lot of shared interests.”

She also mentioned that she was happy to date someone who was the same age as her, “When it comes to relationships, there is something nice about just being the same age.”
Mellencamp is currently gearing up for a new leg of his Plain Spoken tour – which continues in Bristow, Virginia on September 17 – while Brinkley’s skin care business has been growing and she has been busy promoting Bellissima, her new prosecco.
