Call it the Pokemon patrol.

A driver got a lecture on the perils of playing Pokemon Go behind the wheel after the York regional police helicopter spotted his luxury car driving erratically in a late night virtual hunt.

The chopper saw the Mercedes stopping, starting and making sudden turns as it went from a parking lot to a park then a residential neighbourhood during the 3 a.m. quest Monday in Vaughan, north of Toronto.

Caught by a patrol car, the driver confessed he was simply out chasing Pokemon.

He wasn’t charged but was on the receiving end of what police called a “stern warning” on the dangers of distracted driving.

They’ve released a five-minute video from the helicopter, as the Pokemon hunter became hunted himself.

The force is using the incident to remind the public not to be too drawn into their handheld devices while driving or walking near roadways.

And for those who spot large crowds at night and worry they’re suspicious, York police say don’t worry — they could just be Pokemon Go fanatics. Players are also reminded to obey trespassing signs on private property.
