GOLDEN, B.C. – RCMP are investigating reports that a woman was Tasered Aug. 6 while walking alone in the early morning hours near Spirit Square.
Golden-Field RCMP spokesperson Cst. Spencer Lainchbury said the 36-year-old woman came forward to police Monday with the allegation she was jumped from behind and attacked by an unknown assailant.
While she was not hospitalized, RCMP are still working with the woman on what happened to her after she was Tasered.
Police are recommending not to walk alone at night and to report any suspicious activity.
While only one woman has come forward, Cst. Lainchbury said there are reports on social media two women may have fallen victim.
“At this time police will be increasing presence on the paths, including bike and foot patrols,” Cst. Lainchbury said in a press release Monday afternoon.
Golden is a town of about 3,700 along the Trans Canada Highway near six national parks.
