Calgary police continue to investigate after a body was found in the community of Crescent Heights Sunday morning.
Officers were called to a residence in the 300 Block of 1 Avenue northeast at around 12:40 a.m.
When they arrived, police said they found a deceased man inside the home.
Neighbour Cole Foley, who lives above the unit police were searching, said he heard a big boom around midnight.
“It sounded like something fell from a balcony or a gunshot. It was pretty massive. And the next thing you know, in 10 minutes there’s cop cars outside,” Foley said. “It definitely wasn’t thunder. It was something like a gunshot, I’m assuming. Because we saw people going into cop cars, sobbing.”
Valley Side Apartment building manager Carol Murray also heard a lot of commotion Sunday morning.
“Somebody came in from the third floor and said Frank got shot last night,” Murray said. “They were fighting right here. I didn’t know who it was. I stuck my head out of my door and I said ‘get the hell out of here’.”
“Between the thunder and lightning, I never heard the gun. Maybe I didn’t because there was so much thunder and lightning. A person couldn’t tell the difference between people yelling, screaming and fighting and thunder and lightning,” Murray said.
Police tape was set up blocking off a grassy area overlooking Edmonton Trail, as officers scoured the hill next to the apartment building.
Inside the building, a number of police officers were outside the second floor suite where the man’s body’s is believed to have been found.
Bags of belongings were in the hallway, along with police evidence markers.
Residents told Global News that the second floor suite was raided by police in February.
The cause of the man’s death and his identity have not been released. An autopsy was set for Monday.
Police are calling the death suspicious and anyone with any information is being asked to call police.
