Trepanier fire: 95% contained

Some good news from the front lines: the Trepanier fire in Peachland is 95% contained.

The remaining 5% is in an inaccessible area that will be attacked by firefighters on Thursday, according to the Kamloops Fire Centre.

Crews have made good progress since the fire has remained a low vigour surface fire, which is a rank two fire according to the intensity ranking.

There are 107 firefighters on site along with crews from the Peachland Fire Department and four helicopters.

About 1,500 evacuated residents have been allowed back home however an evacuation alert remains in place.

The fire broke out Sunday afternoon and grew to 200 hectares. Its cause is still unknown.
