More than $12,000 lost due to falsified employee information: Sask. public loss report

The majority of public money lost during the first quarter of the fiscal year in Saskatchewan was due to false information from an employee, according to the government’s latest report on public losses.

On Tuesday, the Saskatchewan government released reports that showed money lost by ministries and crown corporations.

A total of $15,584 was reported lost between April 1 to June 30.

According to the report, an individual who allegedly reported false information that allowed them to get higher benefits received $12,550 from the Ministry of Social Services from May 2012 to March 2016.

The person was a client of the Saskatchewan Employment Supplement and Child Care Subsidy program. They were also an employee with the ministry since Sept. 13, 2015.

The report said the individual has resigned from the ministry and the incident was reported to police. The Ministry of Social Services is trying to recover the money.

Also in the first quarter, the Ministry of Health reported an identity fraud case at the Tisdale Hospital on Feb. 28.

According to the report, inpatient services were provided. However, because to the fraud, $2,934 invoiced for out-of-province services cannot be collected. The invoice for the inpatient service was cancelled.
