A popular gathering spot in Ste. Anne, Manitoba was destroyed by a fire that started Friday night.
Patricia McPherson called 911 around 11:40 p.m. after she saw smoke rising from the Jovial Club on Central Avenue.
“In half an hour it was engulfed,” McPherson, with the In Seine Newsletter, said over the phone Saturday morning. “It took two hours from start to finish.”
Ste. Anne’s Fire Chief John Desrochers said the building was empty at the time of the blaze. Investigators are still trying to pinpoint what sparked the fire. There is no official word on damages.
Ste. Anne is about 50 kilometres southeast of Winnipeg.
