Licence issuer in Vonda, Sask. caught snooping into SGI customer records

SGI is issuing a notice to customers that a privacy breach took place at an independent motor vehicle licensing office in Vonda , Sask.

According to the Crown corporation, the employee was looking up customer information without a business reason. After an internal investigation, SGI said it believes the searches were random, and the information wasn’t shared with a third party or used maliciously.

SGI said the employee accessed photos, email addresses, mailing addresses, customer names, number, and other personal information. SGI said no medical or driver records were accessed.

The employee’s access to SGI’s computer system has been terminated.

SGI said they have a zero tolerance policy for employees accessing customer information without a business reason, and employees go through privacy training every two years.

The Crown corporation will be contacting customers whose information was accessed.
