The Pokemon Go craze has spread across Canada, and there’s no shortage of players in Halifax.

The enthusiasm for the smartphone game that gets players out and about in their city has Halifax police reminding players to keep safe, and not let “Pikachu and friends lead you to the police.”

Officers in Halifax issued a distracted driving ticket to a man on July 21 after he was caught driving while using a mobile device. Through their investigation, police determined he had been playing Pokemon Go.

So what should you do to make sure you can catch that Rattatata and Drowzee without winding up being caught by the law?

  • Don’t drive or ride your bike, skateboard, etc. while interacting with the app — you can’t do both safely.
  • Pay attention and look where you’re going.
  • Play in pairs or as a group to ensure your safety.
  • If you’re travelling in an unfamiliar area, make sure you tell someone where you’re going.
  • Don’t trespass onto private property.
