NOTRE-DAME-DE-ÎLE-PERROT — On Saint-Jean-Baptiste, the parents of 19-month-old Alexis McKinnon were enjoying a day in the sun at the Île Perrot splash pad when they heard a horrific scream.
The little girl was crying in pain after stepping onto a metal plate that had been baked in the sun.
“It was horrific,” said grandmother Trudy McKinnon.

The toddler suffered second-degree burns to her feet.
Her family rushed her to the emergency room to treat the burns – she still has scars, one month later.

The family is now contemplating a lawsuit against the town of Notre-Dame-de-Île-Perrot, which opened the glitzy Parc des Éperviers in May.
“We just don’t want this to happen to anyone else,” said Sean McKinnon.
Officials have since covered the metal plate with plywood.
Nevertheless, Alexis’ parents are angry it took such a child suffering an injury for the problem to be solved.
