Jonathan Janzen, 20, told NBC affiliate WIS News he was on his way to work Tuesday morning when a book in the backseat of his car distracted him.

“As I hit about 70 miles per hour, [the book] fluttered up and I’m like, ‘What’s that?’ I veered off to the left, overcorrected, and went across. I can’t believe I didn’t hit anybody,” Janzen told WIS.

His red convertible flipped two or three times and landed upside down in a ditch.

“All I remember is the initial hit and then – just weightless. And then [I was] just laying there and I’m like ‘I’m all right, I can move my legs and arms,” said Janzen to WIS.

That’s when about 12-15 people ran to Janzen’s rescue and helped flip his car over.

“Everybody stopped, everybody wanted to get that guy out, everybody wanted to save his life,” Doleac told WIS. “And when we flipped it over, he put his hands up and said ‘Thank you’… it was just incredible.”

Even though it’s been a few days since the crash, Janzen is still overwhelmed with emotion about the whole ordeal.

“I was not expecting to see that many people standing there…then people [were] giving me hugs…” he said. “Thank you so much every single one of you, just thank you for your concern.”
