Charges laid in shooting deaths of two Calgary men

Calgary police have laid charges in the shooting deaths of two men, which they believe to be related.

Jason Quinn Antonio, 39, was shot to death in an alley in the 300 block of Manora Crescent N.E. on Saturday, Oct. 4, 2014.

Seven months later, 23-year-old Taylor John Zanini was killed in a brazen daytime shooting in the lobby of Willow Park Centre on Bonaventure Drive S.E.

After investigating both deaths, police said it appeared the killings were connected to a group of individuals heavily involved in drug activity.

On Wednesday, police revealed two people had been charged in connection to the deaths of Antonio and Zanini:

  • Gursharanjit Parmar, 32, of Calgary, has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder. He is also charged with one count each of conspiracy to import cocaine and proceeds of crime.
  • Joshua Lloyd Okabe, 30, of Calgary, is charged with two counts of first-degree murder. He is also charged with one count of conspiracy to import cocaine.

Both Parmar and Okabe are scheduled to appear in court on Friday.
