23-year-old victim identified in fatal Willow Park shooting

WATCH ABOVE: Calgary Police have identified 23-year-old Taylor Zanoni as the victim of the fatal shooting in Willow Park Wednesday, but still have yet to find a suspect. Stefan Keyes reports.

CALGARY – Police have identified the victim of a brazen daytime shooting that happened in a southeast business centre on Wednesday.

Taylor John Zanoni, 23, was found by police inside the lobby of Willow Park Centre around 10:45 a.m., but later died in hospital.

“There’s nothing to indicate that this is gang-related…nothing to indicate that it’s drug-related,” said Staff Sergeant Doug Andrus at an afternoon press conference.

Andrus said police are continuing to investigate why Zanoni was at the building on Wednesday.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

Global News has learned Zanoni and a woman were arrested as part of a $250,000 drug bust in 2014. That investigation led to over 50 charges being laid.

Homicide detectives are now reviewing CCTV footage and interviewing witnesses as they try to piece together the moments before gunfire erupted.

At this point, police don’t believe the shooting was random, but wouldn’t provide further details.

A probation office is located inside the building, but it’s unknown if it is connected to the incident.

The gunman is still on the loose, and police didn’t provide a description of the suspect. Andrus said there was nothing to indicate a vehicle was involved in the incident.

Anyone with information about the shooting or the victim who has not already spoken to police is asked to call the Calgary Police Service non-emergency line at 403-266-1234, or Crime Stoppers.

Zanoni is Calgary’s tenth homicide victim of 2015.

WATCH: CPS Staff Sergeant Doug Andrus provides an update on the murder investigation at 3:30 p.m.
