Personal support worker charged in alleged sexual assault of 6th senior citizen: police

A 51-year-old personal support worker in Newmarket, Ont. faces another sexual assault charge, after an elderly man became the sixth senior citizen to come forward with allegations of abuse against him this year.

York Regional Police said the senior citizen reported to police Wednesday that he had been sexually assaulted at his home in Newmarket between Dec. 31, 2015 and Jan. 30, while the suspect worked for We Care Home Health services.

Soja Zadeh, who was also known under the name Shojaadin Mohammad-Zadeh, was re-arrested Wednesday and charged with an additional count of sexual assault.

Police said he now faces a total of seven counts of sexual assault and one count of assault in connection with alleged incidents at different health centres in the region.

Between May 2015 and October 2015, Zadeh was employed at Mackenzie Health hospital in Richmond Hill and was first arrested after police said an 88-year-old woman was sexually assaulted between August and October of last year.

Zadeh then worked as a personal support worker for Community and Home Assistance to Seniors (CHATS) and other agencies, facilities and seniors’ apartment complexes.

After Zadeh’s arrest on Jan. 31, police released a photo of the accused and said two additional alleged victims came forward from CHATS and a senior’s apartment complex in the Yonge Street and St. John’s Sideroad area of Aurora.

Police said a total of five female alleged victims and one male have come forward or were identified by police, who said the investigation is ongoing. Zadeh is scheduled to appear in a Newmarket court on Monday.

They say they believe there are other alleged victims and are urging anyone with information to contact police.
