BELMONT, N.S. – After more than three weeks on the run, an Appaloosa horse who disappeared into the fields of rural Nova Scotia is coming home.

Ashley McCormack was reunited with “Mac” on Monday morning after receiving a call that the horse was tied up in a yard around two kilometres away from the family’s Belmont home, just outside of Truro.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

McCormack says she and her two daughters burst into tears when they spotted the brown, speckled horse, who greeted them with nuzzles.

She says Mac has lost weight and has a few bug bites, but otherwise seems to be in good condition.

McCormack says Mac has a barrell of hay waiting for him after an appointment with the vet and a quick hoof trimming.

She says the horse turns 14 years old sometime this month, but the family does not know the exact date – so they have decided to declare July 18 his birthday.
