NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. – The U.S. Coast Guard and New York law enforcement agencies have helped their Canadian counterparts search for a man who remains missing after he fell into the Niagara River.
The Niagara Parks Police Service in Ontario says a group of about 30 people were having a picnic Saturday afternoon at the Niagara Glen Nature Preserve on the Canadian side of the river when some in the group went for a hike into the gorge below the falls.

Police say a 25-year-old man left the marked trails, climbed onto a rock, fell into the river and was swept away by the fast current.

Canadian police launched a search with the aid of the Erie and Niagara county sheriff’s office and local emergency crews. The search was called off after several hours.
The man’s name hasn’t been released.
