It turns out the gun he was carrying was a non-functional replica of an old flintlock-style gun.

But police say 44-year-old Francis Boivin was found in breach of two his probation conditions, which include possession of firearms or replicas, and to avoid the area in which he was arrested.

Police say the public use or display of replica firearms can be extremely frightening and dangerous.

“Members of the public who see these weapons have every reason to believe they are real and they may be in danger,” said a Transit Police spokesperson in a statement.
