Watch Above: Pipers, drummers and highland dancers show off what they’ve learned at summer school in their final performance.
Hundreds of bagpipers, drummers and highland dancers have taken over Silver Star Mountain for the last two weeks.
They’re here from around the world to participate in Piping Hot Summer Drummer, a summer school for musicians and dancers.
“The students come in on Sunday at one level and by the time they leave on Friday morning they are performing at a way higher level. We’ve been playing bagpipes drums and dancing pretty much all day for the last five days,” Jack Lee, a director of Piping Hot Summer Drummer, said.

Participants range in age from seven to 70. Lee has his own theory on why the traditional bagpipes continue to have enduring appeal.
“I think it is something in the sound of the pipes that just gets in the blood of people,” Lee said.
Organizers want the immersive program to inspire participants.
“We hope that we light the fire, that they really get excited about doing the piping, drumming and dancing and we can teach them a lot of skills,” Lee said. “We hope that they can go back to their home towns and keep it going.”
The school expects to return to Silver Star next summer for their 24th year.
