Metro Vancouver bus and SeaBus workers reach tentative collective agreement

Global News files

The Coast Mountain Bus Company has reached a tentative deal with Unifor Locals 111 and 2200, likely avoiding a work stoppage with bus and SeaBus workers in Metro Vancouver.

Unifor Local 111 President Steve Sutherland said in a statement that a three-year contract was negotiated with no concessions, with further details to come at a ratification vote on July 21.

“We are pleased to have reached a tentative agreement subject to member ratification,” said Sutherland.

“If accepted, this contract will provide us with stability and allow us to focus on working with riders, the community and all three levels of government to improve transit services.”

Union members voted to give their leadership a strike mandate in April, with 98 per cent voting in favour.

“Thank you to our employees and customers for your patience during this period of uncertainty. We are pleased to have come to an agreement without a disruption in service to our customers,” said Coast Mountain Bus Company in a statement.
