The final Ironman in Penticton was held last weekend but it looks like not everyone wants to bid farewell to the triathlon.

The City of Penticton and event organizers have said repeatedly that there will be no more Ironman in the Peach City.

The city is slated to host the Challenge triathlon next year.

But Dan Ashton, the mayor of Penticton, says he would never say never to the return of the Ironman, and it seems one of the race’s original founders does not want to let the event go.

“I think it was a communication problem between the World Triathlon Corporation and the city, which I still think there’s a chance to bring them to the table. Throw the ego and emotion out of the window,” said Ron Zalko, a founder of the Penticton Ironman.

“The door is always open but we have made a decision to go with the Challenge now,” Ashton said.
