Thousands in Abbotsford for Sikh parade

50,000 people are in Abbotsford this afternoon for the Nagar Kirtan parade and celebration.

The parade features tons of free food, prayers, song and dance.

The procession began at 11 a.m. and is making its way through the city.

The festival celebrates the four hundred plus years of the first compilation of their holy scriptures.

“Abbotsford is the second most culturally diverse city in B.C., the Sikhs have been here since the area started, we have the oldest temple in the western hemisphere,” says Bruce Banman, Mayor of Abbotsford.

“They are just a great addition to the city and have always been here”

Road closures are in effect in the area until 4 p.m.
